Women in the Twentieth Century
The 20th century has seen massive changes technologically, socially and in virtually every sphere of life. One of the most marked changes, however, has been the position of women in society. Women have gained many legal and political rights since 1900 when they had no vote, were classed with children in most employment law and could not divorce a husband for adultery even though the reverse was possible. The political and legal changes have paralleled a redefining of women's role in society and of women's perceptions of themselves. Throughout the 20th century, the "Daily Mail" has featured a "women's page" which has mirrored many aspects of those changes. This book produces copies of a selection of those pages, offering an insight into women's perceived role in society. The book also includes many captioned archive photographs which accompanied articles aimed at a female readership.
